What you need for local lyrics
You need Chrome or a compatible Chromium browser and YouTube Music. StreamLyric is an independent extension. It does not replace the YouTube Music player and does not grant TikTok LIVE access.
OBS Studio is only required if you want a lyrics layer on a live scene. Listening with lyrics in the tab does not need OBS.
Local lyrics work without an account
Install the extension, open music.youtube.com, and play a track that has available lyrics. The StreamLyric view should follow pause, seek, and song changes when timing exists.
If the view stays empty, try another track before creating an Overlay. Missing lyrics are usually a catalog or permission problem in Chrome, not an OBS problem.
Sign in only when you need Overlay or cloud continuity
A private Overlay URL and cloud continuity require an account. Do not create a link just to test local lyrics. Each plan allows 1 active Overlay link.
Treat that URL as a credential. Anyone who can read it can request the current playback state. Hide it from screenshots and the live canvas.
What first success looks like
Success is seeing the current line update in YouTube Music. If you stream, success is the same state in a transparent OBS Browser Source without showing the Overlay URL.
Free includes the core lyrics experience and a watermarked Overlay. Trial and Pro add continuity and effects such as 3D rotation. Free keeps Karaoke off and flattens 3D.
Step-by-step setup
- 01Install from the Chrome Web Store
Add StreamLyric, then open YouTube Music in the same Chrome profile. Do not start in OBS.
- 02Play a track that already has lyrics
Confirm lines appear in the StreamLyric view before touching Overlay or account settings.
- 03Stay local until you actually stream
Skip sign-in if you only need the in-tab lyrics view. Overlay links are optional.
- 04Create an Overlay only after local lyrics work
Sign in, copy the private URL once, and keep the key off camera. Match the OBS canvas later.
