Why the Overlay link must stay private
Anyone with the full URL can request the current Overlay state. The random key is the credential, even though the page itself does not require a separate login in OBS.
Never include the full URL in screenshots, tutorials, public chat, stream scenes, or support posts.
When to revoke a link
Revoke it whenever the key may have been recorded or shared, when an old OBS setup is no longer controlled by you, or when you cannot account for where the URL was stored.
Revocation intentionally stops the old source from working.
Update OBS after replacement
Create a replacement link, paste it into the existing Browser Source properties, and refresh the source. Keep the new URL in an appropriate private location.
Confirm the old URL fails before considering the rotation complete.
Step-by-step setup

- 02Create a replacement
Generate a new Overlay link and copy it once.
- 03Update the OBS Browser Source
Replace the old URL in source properties and refresh the page.
- 04Verify both links
Confirm the new source works and the revoked URL no longer displays playback.
